No Idea! When you have no idea what to do with your life

50 to 60 percent of people that attend my courses have no idea.

Now, I'm not saying that is 50 to 60 percent of the population have no idea, but you know sometimes you kind of wonder.

So what do I mean by no idea? I mean that they've kind of gotten to a point in their lives where they're not sure what they want to do with their lives. They could have come to some sort of a crossroad, their kids have gone to uni or to school. They could have just left a really horrible gig that's kind of making them re-evaluate their entire lives, or they could have had a major life event that's happened and they've kind of got ... well no idea from where to go to and the question that's kind of on the tip of their tongue... Is now what?

What do I do now?

How do I know it's between 50 to 60 percent?

Well I measure it, which sounds a little bit weird but it’s part of a process.

It's about creating a bit of a ‘before picture’.

I actually get people to survey a number of different questions which I do deliberately because you want to be able to see how you've moved through the process. Our brains are really fickle they can't remember what it was like when we started something or started a process, or started an exercise they can only remember kind of where we are now.

So the idea is being able to create that kind of ‘before picture’. It's why trainers measure your weights and measurements, it's why when you have beauty treatments they take a before and after picture. It's to give your brain that comparison point, to be able to do that and the reason for taking that snapshot at that time is because it's helpful for them to look back and go ‘Wow! When I started I was here, now I'm here’.

So that's the point of doing surveys, it sounds a little bit weird but it works.

Why am I telling you this?

I'm telling you this for two main reasons.

One is you're not alone. There are other people out there who have no idea what they want to do with their lives, no idea what they want to grow up to be and that is completely okay.

That life that you might have been barrelling towards at breakneck speed might not be the one that you want any more. Things might have changed. You might have changed. I hope you've changed and you might want to do something different.

The second reason is once you've achieved things that you wanted to achieve, whatever they might have been, you'll have new dreams, you'll have new things that you want to achieve.

You know for me it's kind of like unrelenting standards: ‘tick, that has been done now what's the next thing and I need to move on’. That may just be me, but I doubt that I'm the only person with unrelenting standards, but you if you've achieved some stuff in your life you want to achieve different stuff next.

So the two reasons why people generally have no idea, or why am I telling you about this, is because you're not alone and you might have already achieved some dreams.

What to do?

There's a few things you can do.

The first thing is you build a humongous list of all of the dreams that you might possibly want to achieve and out of that list, one will be the next big one for you.

The second is you want to start to explore stuff that you're interested in or just piques your curiousity. Just start to look at it a little bit more check it out attend a course, information session, whatever it might be. Start to explore those things to learn a little bit more about it, and to start something (literally anything) that very first step that you will give you more information about what the path is going to be from here, than it will if you never took that step.

So take that very first step, whatever direction it is. It might be that you step back, it could be a complete misstep and that's okay. You could step in a completely different direction but that first step is going to reveal so much information that will help you going forward.

So what can you do if you've got no idea about what you want to do with your life?

Build that huge humongous list out and just start. Just start doing something.

So I've covered now what you need to do if you've got no idea. Good luck in your adventures and I hope to see you soon!
