Before and After results for Design Your Life on Purpose (DYLOP)
OK, so where are the Pathfinders (collective noun for people who have designed their life), 3 months after they attended the Design Your Life on Purpose (DYLOP) Program.
I like to capture a before and after picture of the attendees for a couple of reasons:
I want to ensure that DYLOP is delivering value – that real change happens
There is power in seeing where you started from & how far you have changed
You will see from the results that changes have been made across the board.
Some interesting ones to point out are…..
Overall satisfaction with life and feeling you can bring your best everyday have increased. I find once people start deciding what and how they want their life to go, means they feel more positive about it overall.
Life allowing you to focus on the areas you want
2021 is acting very much like 2020 – which might be affecting the way people feel in relation to “life allows you to focus on the areas you want”. I definitely know that feeling, with it looking like we are never leaving lock down. Determining what you can pursue in your Strategic Life Map when life gives you lemons, takes a little while to get in the groove.
I am hoping that I can run another DYLOP event on the 6th November.
Know and Understand your Purpose & your Life Path
This has contracted and I find this happens once we start exploring the strategic life map. We realise that maybe what we were focusing on, was not exactly the thing we thought and it starts us questioning our purpose on this planet. All normal stuff to go through, and continue to, as life evolves so will you.
Areas of desired change
When people turn up to a DYLOP program they are often focused on changing career or where they spend their time (lifestyle). Sometimes this is triggered by a change in their health and fitness. The drive is generally looking at different ways to have a career and lifestyle. Lifestyle is very much linked to career, as it often helps us afford the lifestyle we are after.
Relationships going up post the course is one that interests me. It could be that when you change, people around you may not understand why you are changing or they are not on the same journey, this can strain relationships. Surrounding yourself with people who will lift you up and support your dreams, will help you achieve your strategic life map. Sometimes determining who will be supportive can be trial and error. Don't give up your tribe is just waiting to be found.
Expectations
The before question asks then what people expected to get from DYLOP. The after is more about what they need now and/or what they got at the end of the 3 months.
I would expect that actions would be the next area of focus. Once you have a plan and focus you want to drive into action. Clarity remains high because each step that people take forward, opens up more options, which requires more need for clarity.
In the post 3 months coaching session, we talk a lot about the analogy or walking into a space that has movement lighting. Once you take the first step forward, some lights come on, showing your options. Take more steps forward and more lights come on showing even more options.
The secret is in that first step.
The first step might not be precisely the perfect step, but it will reveal a path you would not have seen beforehand. As an example, Steve Jobs would not have predicted that fonts would be a differentiator for Mac’s, when he decided to study calligraphy at university. I did not predict that designing t-shirts for a side hustle Yellow & Co, would have enabled me to help musicians with merchandise or design my own merchandise for Incahoots.
I am fascinated to see where the results change over time.
