Where are they now?

Before and After results for Design Your Life on Purpose (DYLOP)

OK, so where are the Pathfinders (collective noun for people who have designed their life), 3 months after they attended the Design Your Life on Purpose (DYLOP) Program.

I like to capture a before and after picture of the attendees for a couple of reasons:

  1.  I want to ensure that DYLOP is delivering value – that real change happens

  2. There is power in seeing where you started from & how far you have changed

DYLOPToDate.png

You will see from the results that changes have been made across the board.

Some interesting ones to point out are…..

Overall satisfaction with life and feeling you can bring your best everyday have increased.  I find once people start deciding what and how they want their life to go, means they feel more positive about it overall.

Life allowing you to focus on the areas you want

2021 is acting very much like 2020 – which might be affecting the way people feel in relation to “life allows you to focus on the areas you want”.  I definitely know that feeling, with it looking like we are never leaving lock down.  Determining what you can pursue in your Strategic Life Map when life gives you lemons, takes a little while to get in the groove.

I am hoping that I can run another DYLOP event on the 6th November.

Know and Understand your Purpose & your Life Path

This has contracted and I find this happens once we start exploring the strategic life map.  We realise that maybe what we were focusing on, was not exactly the thing we thought and it starts us questioning our purpose on this planet.  All normal stuff to go through, and continue to, as life evolves so will you.

AreasDesiredChange.png

 Areas of desired change

When people turn up to a DYLOP program they are often focused on changing career or where they spend their time (lifestyle).  Sometimes this is triggered by a change in their health and fitness.  The drive is generally looking at different ways to have a career and lifestyle.  Lifestyle is very much linked to career, as it often helps us afford the lifestyle we are after.

Relationships going up post the course is one that interests me.  It could be that when you change, people around you may not understand why you are changing or they are not on the same journey, this can strain relationships.  Surrounding yourself with people who will lift you up and support your dreams, will help you achieve your strategic life map.  Sometimes determining who will be supportive can be trial and error.  Don't give up your tribe is just waiting to be found.

Expectations.png

 Expectations

The before question asks then what people expected to get from DYLOP.  The after is more about what they need now and/or what they got at the end of the 3 months.

I would expect that actions would be the next area of focus. Once you have a plan and focus you want to drive into action.  Clarity remains high because each step that people take forward, opens up more options, which requires more need for clarity.

In the post 3 months coaching session, we talk a lot about the analogy or walking into a space that has movement lighting.  Once you take the first step forward, some lights come on, showing your options.  Take more steps forward and more lights come on showing even more options.

The secret is in that first step.

The first step might not be precisely the perfect step, but it will reveal a path you would not have seen beforehand.  As an example, Steve Jobs would not have predicted that fonts would be a differentiator for Mac’s, when he decided to study calligraphy at university.  I did not predict that designing t-shirts for a side hustle Yellow & Co, would have enabled me to help musicians with merchandise or design my own merchandise for Incahoots.

I am fascinated to see where the results change over time.

In Design we Trust

Design is fundamental integrated into our lives

It is profound how much design impacts every aspect of our day.  From the coffee cup we drink from in the morning to the pillow and bed we lay our heads and bodies on at the end of the day.  Every moment has design integrated into it, fully embedded as part of the experience.

That is without thinking about the areas where design is more prevalently associated, music, art and literature.  These add so much colour, emotion and story to our lives, they express how we feel.  Without them we would be inextricably lost.

Design takes things from being Awkward and Unwieldy to Elegant and Intuitive.

So why not DESIGN your life?

Designing it deliberately and strategically, intentionally and with focus.  That is exactly what we do in the Design your Life, on Purpose program.

This is what we cover in the Design your Life on Purpose program

The program is broken into 4 phases.

DYLOP_Simple.png

Reflection Revolution

ReflectIcon.png

This is about conducting a review of the last 12 months and looking at what has worked and what could do with a tweak.  Different templates generate different thinking.  Generally, this leaves people a little disturbed, ready to work out what to do next.

It is called a revolution, because reflection is something people do not spend a lot of time on, in the instant gratification world.  However, reflecting will allow you to see past the now and immediate and determine if you see a trend, or help steer you in a different direction.  You need to be really quiet to hear what your heart desires.

Dream Quest

Remember when you were a child and you were encouraged to dream, explore your mind and be really curious.  Slowly this skill gets overtaken by responsibility, standardised tests and trying to fit into societies moulds.  But, how can you design a life that you truly desire, if you do not spend time in a dreaming state – otherwise what are you designing a life towards?

Dreamers are the ones that make the impossible seem completely doable.  Your dreaming might not do that initially, but it will open your mind and unearth possibilities you can then explore further.  Dreaming allows you to preview an alternative future and is rather critical to designing your life.

Designing

DesignIcon.png

You now know what is not so right about now, but know what you want to retain and you have a sense of where your dreams are, then let’s get into action.  The designing stage is where the rubber hits the road, this is where you take the first 2 stages and literally map out what you will do in the coming year.

It is where you start to plot out the year ahead and what can happen when, catering for all the BIG’s that also happen in your life, birthdays, anniversaries etc.  Sounds simple?  It requires some decision making on what to focus on and what to defer to another year.

Acting

ActIcon.png

We have a design now, so we are almost there.  Now we concentrate on what will set you up for success.  What are the support mechanisms you can put in place that will mean you are more likely to achieve your dreams?  What items will help anchor you to your strategic life map and help you make decisions and refocus, when like happens.

What processes and habits can you put in place to prevent slip ups or to assist with success?

Tried and Tested tools

I have been experimenting with these tools for 10 years and have invested well over $66,000.  The benefit to you is three-fold:

1.     They are tried and tested. If the tools work they get incorporated, if they don't they get jettisoned.

2.     They are always evolving and improving.  I invest this time and money on what is the latest thinking that will help me maximise my time.  No tired and pedestrian content here.

3.     You do not need to make the same investment.  I have done the hard work for you to take advantage of the outcome.

It is not just me that has been using these tools, I use them with corporate organisational change management and personal coaching clients.  Here is the feedback from participants:

Just do it! It will help you get clarity on your goals and give you practical steps to achieve them. And it helps you remember how to dream again :)

Fun, thought provoking day that allowed me to consider a major new possibility in my life. And left with a well put together plan for the next 12 months and 3 years

Executive Recruiter & Coach

What are the “walk aways”?

Every time I design a workshop, I always ask the client, what are the “walk aways”?  What do you want people to leave the room with?  What are they walking away with?  Using these words deliberately puts them in a future focused state, with that imagery of people leaving the workshop.  It appears to solidify their thinking more than take aways.

1.       An assessment of the last 12 months, positive and negative (it is never all bad)

2.       A list of dreams and the mechanisms to keep dreaming for now and the future

3.       A Life Map for the next 12 months

4.       Tangible and actionable items to work on immediately, no manifesting here

5.       Built individualised support mechanisms that will give your greater success in achieving your dreams

6.       Tried and tested approaches – if it does not work, it is not there

7.       Contextual beacon to guide you in the next 12 months

So, what does this mean for you?

I encourage you to spend time determining what you REALLY want from life, especially the next 12 months and DESIGN it into being.

You can get started with just a little bit of time each week.  Even 1 hour a week will get you started.  At the very least you will understand if this is for you or not.

DREAM QUEST

As we start moving into adulting, we let go of the ability to dream, or it gets schooled out of us.  This is an absolute tragedy, and probably responsible for the deluge of sameness we get surrounded with.

People that create amazing, desirable lives are the ones that never let go of dreaming and make those dreams come true.

Dream Quest is about kickstarting that process to unearth possibilities and expand your thinking beyond your now, developing the critical super habit of dreaming.  Without this super habit of dreaming it is hard to know what you are designing your life towards.

REFLECTION REVOLUTION

Our lives were already packed with loads of things, very important and valuable things, and then Global Pandemic!  The world literally stops…..  It then becomes even more important to take stock, and determine whether the life you were heading towards at break neck speed, is really the life that you truly desire.

Reflection is something that you do generally do periodically, rather than an everyday habit, therefore, Reflection Revolution will be offered as preparation for Design Your Life on Purpose workshops or retreats. It is important to note, that this can be done as a stand-alone activity, still very valuable.

Incahoots exists

To guide professionals who have deferred their dreams, to unearth possibilities to design a strategic life map that answers the question - now what?

About CMM

Christina Morgan-Meldrum (CMM) is a coach, facilitator, author, change professional and creative. She particularly loves helping people and organisations unearth what’s possible to design a future that suits you perfectly (a Strategic Lifemap).

She has cultivated the ability to walk into any industry; see what is not seen, distil what is complicated, and simplify the chaos.  This skill has been forged in a deliberate and concentrated way for over 20 years, through Personal Coaching and working in Organisational Change Management.

Christina fills her time on various side hustles, blogging, creating and learning the piano.  If you are looking for her, she is likely at her spiritual home JB Hi-Fi, exploring stationery stores or artisan markets.

Who says - you need to focus on deficits and not strengths?

Who says - you need to focus on deficits and not Strengths?

Design your Life on Purpose – who says series – is about looking at amazing crazy ideas.

It might be my extreme positivity (I have been measured and I am 98% optimist and 99% happy), but I choose to look at the world from a strengths-based lens, rather than a deficit.

‘Existing wisdom’ is that we need to concentrate on what we do poorly and work on how we get better at it.  I have had many performance improvement discussions in my career, where they told me to focus on x, even if I am really crap at it.  Baffling!

Thankfully, there is evidence that this will not generate high performance and frankly can lead people to believe there is something wrong with them.  Different people have different talents and these talents will show up in different ways.  If this was not the case we would not have different people performing different roles.  People are successful using the talents and skills they innately have.  That is why we have accountants and artists, boiler makers and ballet dancers, because we are not homogenous beings.

My experience with strengths is relatively new, but fits very well with my view of the world.  But the research and rigour applied by Cliftons/Gallup is an impressive way to evidence my world view.

Gallup */Clifton’s research shows that people who know and use their CliftonStrengths are:

  • more engaged at work

  • more productive in their roles

  • happier and healthier

*I always say they measure everything that moves

However, my reason for loving it, is it helps people make sense of themselves in a way that allows them to apply their strengths regardless of their role.  It helps you appreciate how and when you succeed and how to repeat the circumstances that will make that happen more often.

It applies in the Design your Life on Purpose program as invaluable input and direction as to how you can help yourself.  Let me demonstrate why this works by explaining how my top 5 strengths help me in creating Design your Life on Purpose and where my business is heading.

Positivity

My infectious enthusiasm, helps people unearth what is possible and then believe it is possible

Strategic

Helps me create different plans and approaches to get to the outcomes, and help them quickly decide what is going to work best for them

Futuristic

Helps paint a picture of what the future could be for them and helps me create a picture of what my future is

Ideation

Means I can quickly generate a bunch of ideas (quickly) that can help buffer against the roadblocks that can come up

Relator

Building deep enduring relationships means I can design an experience that is uplifting and unique, I am their partner in this for the long haul

The same strengths, in a very similar way show up in designing Incahoots, into a whole different business model.  Where I will spend time working with teams and projects to design their change strategy, strategic plans and then coach their teams to achieve the outcome.

Have you ever received advice that you knew you could not apply?  I often get the advice “are you going to toughen up now?”, usually after someone has let me down spectacularly, or being very judge-y that hurt me right to the core.  I get the sentiment, but that is not how I navigate the world and I would prefer to be open and welcoming and be cut to the quick very occasionally.  If I look at why that is so, my strengths point towards that outcome.  Knowing your strengths will help you know what is going to work better for you and what you are trying to achieve.

So, what does this mean for you?

Strengths assessment and debrief (debrief – is essential to help understanding, connection and application) has been added to the Design your Life on Purpose program packages, because it can fundamentally change the way you approach the dreams you have in place and will help you achieve them.

If you sign up for DYLOP before the 9th July you will get a session to understand your strengths and how they will help you design your life.

What “existing” wisdom do you feel needs to be flipped?

Just because everyone is going one way, you can choose to go an entirely different direction.  I want you to do the thing you have been avoiding, thinking it was not right or odd.  It is doable.  Ignore the naysayers and go do your thing.

I will be the cheerleader for your craziness.

You can get started with just a little bit of time each week.  Even 1 hour a week will get you started.  At the very least you will understand if this is for you or not.

DYLOP questions answered..

Questions I would ask, if I was you

When you are asked to take a Saturday and spend it with me creating a Strategic Life Map, that might generate a couple of questions.  Here are some I would ask if I was in your shoes.  Please feel free to ping me any others to hello@incahoots.com.au.

I don’t have time, I have so much going on and I just cannot add this to everything I am doing?

So, we are starting with the big questions, ok let’s go.  When people come to this event, they always come away talking about how they should have done it years ago (they couldn’t because, I hadn’t finalised it).  This is not intended to add pressure to an already stressful little human, but to say it is never the perfect time.

What I can say is this just start!  Having a plan is the first step.  Once you have a plan it is much easier to work out what part you can move forward on, i.e. instead of doing X you can do Y.  Any progress is still progress.  We often create in our minds a bunch of very complicated and perfect solutions.  If you have just 1 hour a week, I know you can make great progress on your strategic life plan.  Once you build some momentum then you find more space, creative solutions and more time.  Spending one night per week sans Netflix will give you a couple of hours,

The decision point is, are you happy with your life the way it is and the way it’s heading.  If the answer is no, then this is for you.  Recently a survey by Bauer Media HerPulse 5.0, said that 44% of women were considering reinventing their career.  Design Your Life on Purpose is a wholistic life approach, not just career, so that means you are not alone.

I am too old to change now?

Classic!  My response, oh you must be dead then, as you are not too old EVER.  On the flipside you are also never too young.  If you don’t quite believe me then look at this post to give you some great examples of why being too old is not a thing.

Questionsinclass.jpg

I do not have dreams?

I know that you do, they are just under the surface, hidden, deferred until a better time.  What I have seen is that through the process of reflecting and dreaming they emerge and you can start on them, even if circumstances are not completely right at the moment.

I will summarise the concept here, but for the full low down go here.  We have been trained to not dream, being practical and sensible.  The dreams we had as a child get trained out of us.  Opening up this space, is rather magical.  Once these things are uttered, or written down it is amazing how they take a life all of their own, almost like the universe was waiting for you to SPEAK it out LOUD.

If that is bit too hippy dippy for you, think of it this way.  Dreaming requires us to activate our imagination and curiousity.  Both imagination and curiousity are critical thinking skills required for innovation.  Every organisation everywhere, has innovation as one of their key priorities, so by dreaming you will be become a more desirable employee.

My life is sorted, so I do not need this, thanks?

I love my life and it is totally heading in the right direction.  Like anything, keeping it moving in the right direction requires you to focus on it.  As they say ‘energy flows where your attention goes’.  Plus, my experience is that if you do not reflect and dream, you might not be unearthing possibilities for you to explore.  Living the life that suits you perfectly, might require you to challenge the status quo.

Why is this in person and not online (hello COVID-19)?

Great question, there are a few ways I can answer this.

We are COVID-19 safe.

The venue (Seed Spaces) has all the COVID-19 distancing elements in place and the workshop is limited to 12 people.

It won’t feel like work.

Working on a computer, in an online format, will feel the same as if you are working.  This is not work in that sense and I want you to separate work from designing your life.

It requires Mono Tasking

Honouring the commitment, you have made to yourself, I know you will get much more if I ensure you are monotasking.  Being in the same room will help me, help you monotask.

Analogue is better

Working with your hands, by writing, and drawing helps you make connections that are not as easy to make with the typed word, which tends to be more linear.  There are a few activities that will require you to draw and choose that is easier and simpler when analogue.  I also find that using this method is locks it into your brain easier and you remember it, without having to search for the course material.

I would like to bring a friend, but I there are somethings I am not comfortable sharing, even sharing with my friend, how will this work?

One of the key guidelines of the workshop is that you only share, if and how much you want to, or not at all.  The choice is yours.  This process does bring up things that will surprise you, things that you might have been denying and might make your eyes leak (there are often tears and no always from the participants).  But we all process information differently, some people want to talk it out and others just need a moment or two to process it.  There is no expectation you will share.

Also, this isn't a share with the person sitting next to you thing.  This is personal, this is about your life and designing it to suit you.  You are not designing your friend’s life, your partners life, your neighbours, sister, brother or dog walker’s life.  This is all about you and what you want from your life, so the work is individual.

So, if the work is individual, why are there bonuses for bringing a friend?

Friends can be the best cheer squad possible.  I know my friends have supported every crazy adventure I have decided is the next thing, in fact I do not think I would be as brave, without their support.  Be being part of the process, they will also have a better appreciation of what you are working towards (whether you share or not), as they will also have their own adventure.  So being able to support each other when you falter, is invaluable.

If I sign up to a lower package, am I getting a sub-standard experience?

When you are in the workshop space, my focus will be on ensuring the best experience for you and the group.  It will not factor into my mind what package you signed up for, that will happen later in the program structure.  There will be none of the “these seats are reserved for VIP’s” rubbish, I hate that stuff.  It is elitist and annoying.

Why are their different packages and how do I choose what is right for me?

The packages are designed to ensure that you have the right level of support to be able to truly make use of the tools and techniques and really start to change your life towards the life that suits you perfectly.  Most people need some mechanism for checking in, which is why I recommend the Orange level.  This helps you check in and work through common stumbling blocks when they arise, rather than trying to download all of that in one workshop format.  Liken it to a project you get at work.  It is highly unlikely that you are given a project and then no-one checks in on progress, roadblocks or celebrating successes for an entire year.  This project is WAY more important than a work project, as this is your wholistic life, so checking in is kind of super important.

Note also, this is NOT about a guilt session.  I find people are surprised at how much progress they have made and also get clear on what the hold-up has been and get to resolving it.  Sometimes, the check in can be about permission to just be; slow down and deal with stuff that has come up.  High pressure this is not, there is already enough of that in the world.  This is more a gentle nudge and of course celebrating what you have achieved.  One final thing before we show you the levels again.  If you know your strengths, then you know how they can help you achieve your dreams, more than is immediately obvious.

Could this be something we could offer our employees?

The short answer is of course.  You could attend individually and your employer picks up the tab, or it can be delivered in house, as part of a broader wellbeing package.

All employers are looking for fully engaged employees.  What better way to have fully engaged employees, then to have employees who are really clear on their strategic life map and what they need to do to get to their desired future.

Now, if I forgot a burning question or you wanted to clarify anything above, then please reach out at hello@incahoots.com.au.

Who Says - I am too old?

That did not stop Ronni Kahn, Pete Murray, Jan Logan or Ita Buttrose.  These are just 4 people who did something “later” in life and have been very successful.

Who says your crazy idea might not be exactly what the world needs?  Regardless of how young or old you are.

Design your Life on Purpose – who says series – is about looking at what amazing crazy ideas have been done, so why not yours?

Today we look at 3 people that could have stopped, but in fact made a significant contribution “later” in life.

 Ronni Kahn

Ronni is the founder of OZ Harvest (Australia’s largest Food rescue association) and started this at the age of 52.  I imagine her and all the people that they help (27,701,761 meals from March to Dec 2020) are glad she didn’t think she was too old.  She has changed an entire industry and in fact created a new one for food rescue and diverted 7,792,763 kgs from landfill.

Pete Murray

Pete is a musician, and you might be thinking old, what the?  He became a serious musician into his thirties.  Shocking I know!  In an industry where if you haven’t had major success by mid to late 20s, you give up, this is unusual.  Pete only started learning guitar at 22, he didn't think he was too old, actually, he did.  He was convinced by other musos and has had 3 albums that have achieved Platinum status on the ARIA Charts (Australian Recording Industry Association) as a result.

Jan Logan

Jan started her jewellery business at age 50.  She had her kids and decided she needed something else in her life (see this article about a country girl to design icon).  The designs are just divine and I often lust over them.  Thank goodness she didn't think she was too old.

Ita Buttrose

Finally, everyone’s favourite, Ita Buttrose.  A very formidable women, having worked in Magazines and Newspapers, when they were male chauvinistic bastions, Ita was invited and accepted the chair of the ABC at the age of 77.  She did not think she was too old.

The above people ignored the people who said, “you are too old” and just went ahead and did it anyway.  The above are very public examples of the people who refused to let age be a barrier.  I am sure if you looked around you, you could find loads more

So, what does this mean for you?

Do not let age be a barrier to you.  I want you to do the thing you have been avoiding, thinking it was not right or odd.  You are not too old.  It is doable.  Ignore the naysayers and go do your thing.

I will be the cheerleader for your craziness.

You can get started with just a little bit of time each week.  Even 1 hour a week will get you started.  At the very least you will understand if this is for you or not.

All details about the one day are contained on this page.  It is packed to the gills with everything you can ever imagine asking, such as:

  • ·       Which package would you recommend?

  • ·       What is different to other offerings?

  • ·       Is there pre-work?

  • ·       Bonuses for the first 6 registrations and if you bring a friend

What was the experience like again….

Here are the details about Designing your Life on Purpose experience of the attendees.

“We all need this. Don't waste time being aimless”

Julianna Canale - Executive Manager, Westpac

“It was my time and I was giving myself permission to invest in me”

Deb C - Connexia Change Management Practice Director

“Do it. Even if they sort of know their path its' such a great exercise and it triggers your brain. Even more so for someone that is a bit lost - Everyone can do it.”

But COVID19?

But with COVID 19, is this really the right time?

Read on to find out why and for an extra special bonus.

I sooo get it, COVID 19 can disrupt the best laid plans and it is OK to be not OK when you are dealing with uncertainty.  Sometimes you need to be and sit with the situation, rather than trying to force something.

I know I have done that and especially last year.  I took time to wallow and let my amazing intuition show me the way forward, which took weeks, by the way.  Eventually, I determined that there was a lot I could do, when I was forced to delay the Design your Life on Purpose retreat.  I used the time to create content and get feedback on it, by starting Reflection Revolution, via old school correspondence.

The key is though, is delays plans, it does not cancel them.

More importantly, crisis such as these, bring life into sharp relief.

  • ·       Is this really the life I want?

  • ·       Am I really heading in the right direction?

  • ·       I know this is not my path, but I do not know what is?

I believe that it is such events like Covid 19, can also be what propels us forward, to decide to take control of what your life can and will be.

Therefore, continuing to Design your Life on Purpose, becomes even more important.

But face to face?

There is absolutely a need to have this analogue as a delivery method.  Let me assure you though the venue is COVID 19 compliant and also the room is really large, so people can spread out.  If we get another lockdown, then we can move the date as well.

Here is how I will help….

In order to facilitate you taking the time to Design your Life in Purpose.  If you register by Friday the 9th July, I will add a Strengthen your Strategic Life Map to your offer, free of charge.  Normally, Strengthen your Strategic Life Map is $495 and is about understanding you innate talents and how they can help you achieve the life that suits you perfectly.

So, do what you need to do to support yourself, including Designing your Life in Purpose.

 Yours collaboratively

Christina

What is unique about DYLOP?

Unique is one of those loaded words to use to describe yourself or your program.  On the one hand you cannot say you are entirely unique, as you have built your material on the back of other people’s hard work, as these fine artists say.

Austin Kleon and many artists before him say – “Steal Like an Artist”

David Bowie – “The only art I study is stuff I can steal from”

Then on the other hand your unique combination of genes, life experience, your upbringing and natural skills, means you and the DYLOP course will be unique.  Below are 3 reasons that will help add substance to this existentialism.

What is indeed unique about Design Your Life on Purpose (DYLOP)?

  • It combines Organisational Change Management (OCM) with Personal Coaching

  • It is wholistic – treating you as a whole human being with responsibilities

  • It has been developed over 10 years and way over $66,000 has been invested, so you do not need to

Combines Organisational Change Management and Personal Coaching

DYLOP combines two areas of knowledge and expertise Organisational Change Management (OCM) and Personal Coaching.

Organisational Change Management (OCM) is the ability to move an organisation from current situation to future desired situation.  It can be a sub part of the organisation or the whole organisation.  It is super fun and challenging at times, but you learn a lot about people and their reaction to change, which isn’t always bad btw.

There are skills, techniques and strategies that you use to help people move through change.  Often it is viewed at 50,000 feet that you are moving the whole organisation as one, when in fact each person needs to choose to change.  So, you need to appeal to the masses and to each individual at the same time.

From my bio, you will see that I have been doing OCM for some time.  What you might not appreciate is that my experience spans organisations, industries and different types of change, e.g system, cultural, process, compliance change.  Applying the same skills and techniques and strategies, but adapting them for each organisation and its unique needs.  That translates to an understanding of change as it applies to different industries, different work cultures, different demographics and basically every version of humans you can think of.  That is some deep knowledge right there and here are some stats to really drive it home.  I have loved working with:

  • 18 Organisations

  • 32 Projects/Programs

  • 3,500 Workshop attendees

  • 75,000 People impacted by the implemented changes

  • Development of 99 OCM strategies

Personal Coaching is where you work with people one on one to help them create change in some aspect of their life, helping them towards a desired future state. (see the parallels).  Inevitably in every organisational change, you will also need to do personal coaching.  It could be with executives on how to sell the change and gain confidence of the organisation and their program teams working on getting the thing done.  It could be coaching team members that are melting down from the pressure of embarking on this change, or it could be coaching people, who are passively or actively resisting.

Apart from coaching in the organisational change perspective I love collaborating with individuals who want to do something different, whatever that different is.

Some of my techniques and strategies are different to Organisational Change Management and some the same.  Early on in my Org Change Career, I realised that coaching skills would help me be better and I would be a better coach, as a result of my organisational skills.

Both organisational and individual change draws on aspects of positive psychology, Neuroscience, personal productivity, strategy, human centred design, facilitation, project management and governance and a host of other fields and skills.  Pulling together the right combination for an organisation or this individual is what makes it super fun.

It is Wholistic

DYLOP is a wholistic approach to your life, treating you as whole human being.  Your family or personal circumstances will absolutely affect where you can place your energy and time.  So, it works with where you are and what you have right now. Once the course is complete, even 1 hour a week will continue to move you forward towards your dreams.  It does not matter if you are working full time, part time, just getting by or in your dream job, it suits all.

My Investment – so you do not have to

I cannot remember a time when I was not looking at ways to improve.  It started to crystallise when I started working in organisations in 1992.  I now know that what I attributed to constructive discontent is actually an inherent talent called “maximiser” (see more about strengths at Clifton’s Strength Assessment).  I am always looking at ways to be a better human, and to get more from this life, a burning desire to leave a legacy.

I have calculated, over the last 10 years alone – when I started working on DYLOP in earnest – I have invested well over $9,500 per year in this space.  So, $66,000 over 7 years, at least.

Why am I telling you this?  I am telling you this, so you do not have to invest as much.  I have distilled what is good and jettisoned what does not work.  I did not start this with you in mind, just selfishly for me.  What has dawned on me through my roles in Organisational Change Management and Coaching, is that this helps people, a lot.

If it can help someone, then I share it.  Sharing works best when it is relevant and applicable to the person at that time.  When it is adapted to suit a person or an organisation, then it becomes a collaboration, creatively solving problems to create a desired future state.  That is why my company is called Incahoots – I work “in-cahoots” with you and/or your organisation.

My Word for 2020 was Forge – it was about making this work enduring, the 10 years and over $66,000 have culminated in DYLOP.  This becomes all for nought if I do not share it, which is where my word for 2021 comes in – Electrify.  Electrify is about injecting DYLOP with energy and electricity, so it sparks, guiding you so you can stop deferring your dreams, unearth possibilities and develop your strategic life map, answering the question – now what?

Bottom Line

Bottom Line is… I know CHANGE. I know how to plan for change, how to start change, how to adjust change in progress, how to track change and how to embed change.

When you attend a DYLOP program you will be gaining the collective wisdom, that has been condensed and distilled from over 20 years of experience, from both Organisational Change Management and Personal Coaching.  You are getting the research, and investment to designing your desired future state.  You are getting a wholistic approach that is focused uniquely, on you, your personal Strategic Life Map that suits you and no one else.

Who Says? You cannot have a hybrid career? (and I am not talking location….)

Design your Life on Purpose – who says series

looks at amazing crazy ideas

In this who says series we look at people wanting to pursue 2 career paths simultaneously, having an ‘and’ rather than an ‘or’ in their careers.  If the cannot pursue 2 career paths simultaneously, they have to either:

  1.     Squish it into a side hustle

  2.    Having to decide one way or the other

In the work that I do with professionals, I am seeing people wanting to pursue two careers at once, rather than sequentially (#oldschool).  You can be a snail trainer and a hairdresser, a real estate agent and a professional knife thrower.  The people I work with are looking for the ‘and’ and no longer the ‘or’, when it comes to their career.

This makes sense to me for a number of reasons.

coloured boxes.jpg

What we expected was the “norm” was flipped on its head when we hit Covid 19.  You can be a productive member of an organisation and work from home.  What?  You can live in a location that is removed from the head office and still get a lot done.  No Way!  I know a number of organisations did work this way, but it was not the norm and now it is.

If you are considering investigating a different career, the logical and safe bet is to do this while you are gainfully employed.  You do not throw away what you need to sustain your family and wellbeing, while you pursue something you are unsure about.  You can test the waters.  Yes, you can do this as a side hustle, but there will come a time when it needs to move into something more than nights and weekends, but will still require care and feeding.  Maintaining both is a great way to confirm it works.  Plus, there is this thing called rest.  I have learnt it is super important, so allow your employees to have hybrid careers, means they will bring the best of themselves to the office (actually work, as the office is hybrid now), rested and ready to go.

Why can you not do both?  If you get value out of them both in different ways, why do we need to do one or the other.   It does not make sense to me.  I love working with corporates on large scale changes, they are complicated and matted and super exciting.  But, I equally love working with individuals and small teams and business on helping them navigate and plan change to create a desirable future.  As long as both are aware of how they will be supported and when, why can I not do both?

For an organisation, if you want fully formed humans to be working for you then, they come with ambitions and dreams that might not line up completely with you and your organisation. Why would you lose that talent, just because they do not fit the perfect employee mould?

Pursuing something you are unsure of will require some creativity and problem-solving skills, stretching you.  I am pretty sure those skills are what every organisation, wants as well.  Creativity and innovation come from the edges and not the fully formed middle.  Bringing those skills back to an organisation will be invaluable for the individual and the organisation.

Finally, future proofing.  If you look back at the history of business, there is always disruption.  A business or a whole industry will disappear, when something different comes along.  In recent memory; taxis disrupted by uber, hotels by Airbnb, music distribution companies by streaming services, retail by instagram & online shopping, credit card companies by afterpay, corporate office buildings by hybrid working.  There is a real democratisation happening, so future proofing your career will help ensure you have a career, when your industry is disrupted.

So, what does this mean for you?

Just because everyone is going one way, you can choose to go an entirely different direction.  I want you to do the thing you have been avoiding, thinking it was not right or odd.  It is doable.  Ignore the naysayers and go do your thing.

I will be the cheerleader for your craziness.

You can get started with just a little bit of time each week.  Even 1 hour a week will get you started.  At the very least you will understand if this is for you or not.

Next DYLOP coming soon....

Next DYLOP coming soon..

You may or may not be wondering, if I am going to hold another Design Your Life on Purpose this year.  The good news is yes, 1000% yes!

So why so quiet?

After….

Successful Pilot – Tick!

Great feedback from participants – Tick!

Like these ones:

Fun, thought provoking day that allowed me to consider a major new possibility in my life. And left with a well put together plan for the next 12 months and 3 years

Jan Van der Meer - Executive Recruiter & Coach

Totally recommend. Opens your mind to thinking outside the square and allowing self to dream, develop plans and break it into steps to go forth with.

Trina Bechly - Office Manager & Photographer

I wanted time to think, reflect and determine what it could and should look like.  Unlike every corporate pilot I have been involved in – where it is; pilot and then go immediately following, sometimes slower.  No chance to reflect and update what changes came from the pilot.

I really took the time to think about what this Design your Life on Purpose thing could be and should be, to ensure the best outcome for the pathfinders (collective noun for people designing their life).  I know that I need to give my intuition time to whisper the changes, approach, even words to use.

Going it alone is hard!

I know from personal experience that going it alone is hard work and sometimes you can find it all too much.  I wanted to make sure that the pathfinders had the right support to help them through the full 12 months and not just as a once off event.  I encourage the pathfinders to share their dreams only with people who will support and uplift them and not just anyone.  You need to make sure you have someone who is Incahoots with you and your dreams, it helps enormously.

When I had my double mastectomy and reconstruction, I was asked by very well-meaning family and friends, “If I would I slow down now?”  I love them for the care they were showing me, but I am a way better human if I am doing the things I love.  So, the answer, respectfully was no.  I will not slow down, in fact I will accelerate, as I want to be more than this, this is blip in my life, not my defining feature.

I want my pathfinders to have that same level of unwavering support and encouragement.  Doing something different is hard work, you are pushing against the status quo and that takes effort and a little bit of crazy.  They deserve the same level of conviction and crazy, knowing they have someone totally Incahoots with them.

Those same well-meaning family and friends understand why this is so important to me and are my best advocates and supporters.

Lasting change does not happen after a 1-day event

I have had the pleasure of attending some super powerful events.  Sometimes though 1 month or 2 months later and the power and benefits have started to fade.  It has become easy to slink back into my old habits and ways of being.  I wanted to consider this context within the construct of Design your Life on Purpose thing.

As I know change, I know that change does not happen overnight.  You cannot attend one workshop and suddenly find the way you plan and manage your life has magically changed.  You will experience peaks and troughs and wins and losses, before you get your groove.  I personally have been improving on this for 10 years*. I can provide everyone with the outline and the approach, but support pre and post that one day is what will make the difference and truly create a life that suits them perfectly.

*I realised that I started this journey when I finished a gig at News.  Not the right organisation for me and not the right people to be surrounded with (except my team – they were amazing!).  I decided then, I was going to plan and drive my life the way I wanted it and my experimentation began.

Plus, I had some fun!

I spent a lovely Easter in Orange with my dear friend and had dinner with other friends I had neglected.  I took my Mum to the Bathurst show.  You know, fun life things.

Interested in the next DYLOP?

I am finalising the approach and details at the moment, hence the post.  If you missed the last one and are itching to come along to the next one, send me your best dates.

In Design We Trust

Design is profoundly and fundamentally integrated into our lives

That is exactly what we do in the upcoming workshop on Design your Life, on Purpose on 20th March.

This is what we cover in Design your Life on Purpose workshop

The one-day workshop is broken into 4 phases.

DYLOP_Simple.png

Reflection Revolution

This is about conducting a review of the last 12 months and looking at what has worked and what could do with a tweak. Different templates generate different thinking.  Generally, this leaves people a little disturbed, ready to work out what to do next.

It is called a revolution, because reflection is something people do not spend a lot of time on, in the instant gratification world. However, reflecting will allow you to see past the now and immediate and determine if you see a trend, or help steer you in a different direction.  You need to be really quiet to hear what your heart desires.

Dream Quest:

Designing:

You now know what is not so right about now, but know what you want to retain and you have a sense of where your dreams are, then let’s get into action.  The designing stage is where the rubber hits the road, this is where you take the first 2 stages and literally map out what you will do in the coming year.

It is where you start to plot out the year ahead and what can happen when, catering for all the BIG’s that also happen in your life, birthdays, anniversaries etc.  Sounds simple?  It requires some decision making on what to focus on and what to defer to another year.

Acting:

We have a design now, so we are almost there.  Now we concentrate on what will set you up for success.  What are the support mechanisms you can put in place that will mean you are more likely to achieve your dreams?  What items will help anchor you to your strategic life map and help you make decisions and refocus, when like happens.

What processes and habits can you put in place to prevent slip ups or to assist with success?

Tried and Tested tools

I have been experimenting with these tools for a minimum of 7 years and have invested well over $66,000.

DYLOP gave me the opportunity to find and understand myself again. Life can get busy balancing health, relationships, work, hobbies and all the other unexpected things that take you away from ‘being and planning’.  I would highly recommend this personal investment to friends, family and work peers.   Christina is talented in this field, warm, empathetic and generous.

side hustle_sail.jpg
The templates helped me clear the fog, provided guidance and a path forward. I now have a sense of structure for my dreams and goals, both strategically and in the daily, weekly and monthly activities

To get you set up for that 1 hour a week – come along to the 1-day workshop Design your Life, On Purpose on 20th March.  You will get a wholistic strategic life map, that will cater for your personal circumstances.

Not quite ready for the 1day DYLOP workshop

Here are some other options to get you started on designing.

Electrify 2021

One-word contextual beacon for 2021 – why you need one?

I know that we are a little into 2021 and normally I would share this way earlier – it was decided in November 2020 after all.  I realised the other day, when a lovely colleague of mine (thanks Dorothy) mentioned that I had not shared publicly.

Interesting question on a couple of fronts….

  • Why do I find it so helpful to have a one-word contextual beacon for the year?

  • Why do I share it publicly, any way?

  • How do you get one if your own?

Why is it so helpful to have a one-word contextual beacon for the year?

The purpose of having a one-word theme is because it acts like a guide or anchor for your dreams throughout the year. It helps balance out the often-conflicting areas of deep focus and opportunity grabbing. Think of it like MACRO structure for the year and then you can have MICRO flexibility, allowing you to respond to opportunities or challenges that arise during the course of a year

A one-word theme helps balance out the often-conflicting areas of deep focus and opportunity grabbing

Dr Jason Fox

I always felt that SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound) goals were a bit constraining for a whole year, when an opportunity or challenge would come along they were no longer relevant.  New Year’s resolution/s had no permeance to them and were forgotten almost before the end of January.  I understand the logic associated with SMART goals, they likely have their place, just not for me.  I like to be able to grab opportunities as they arise.

I know that explanation can seem a little light, but I have found it super effective.  I feel that is a very low risk approach to making meaningful change, you choose a word and anchor your year plans around it. If it does not work, you have not put in too much effort.  However, this brings me nicely to why I share it publicly.

Why I share it publicly?

Aha, you have come across one of the reasons it is effective, well done you!  The contextual beacon is super helpful when you share it.  It you explain the word and what it means to you, to colleagues and friends, they will help keep you accountable.  They will remind you of your word, when you are woosing out on doing something or you are not living according to your word.

Personally, I find that it anchors the dreams I am keen to achieve in the year ahead.  Let me explain with an example.  2020 my word was FORGE, which was about creating things that were enduring, long lasting.  I had planned to hold my first retreat in May 2020.  If you recall, that was when we had just come out of severe lock down and we were still getting used to what this would means for us (the new normal the most overused phase of 2020).  The retreat was a way to ensure I would write the content.  Instead I asked my network if they wanted to participate in a REFLECTION REVOLUTION, which was a series of templates sent snail mail.  The content was not written, none of it.  I was writing a couple of weeks ahead.  I even explained in the intro that this might be 6-8 weeks, as I had not decided what templates would add the most value.  Because my word for the year was FORGE. I did exactly that and worked out a way to FORGE ahead.

There are many more instances of this, throughout the year, where the contextual beacon would assist in guiding my decisions.

Enough already – How do I get one for myself?

Come along to the Design your Life Workshop on 20th March, and part of the outcome, is we will work through your word.  The investment of a day will give you a whole lot of context to enable you have 2 or 3 to choose from at the end of the day, that will serve your dreams best.  All details are here

If you are unable to make the workshop, here are the four steps:

First, YOUR WORD NEEDS TO BE BOTH INSPIRING AND INSTANTLY UNDERSTANDABLE

The outcome we are after here is a word that is inspiring for you, but instantly understandable for everyone else. Having an obscure reference to a Lord of Rings character, will require too much explanation and it will be harder for your posse to help you keep focused, if it's a bit too tricky to remember the word, let alone, it's meaning. The only explanation should be around how that might apply in your context.

Here are Dr Jason Fox's quick tips about choosing a word wisely:

1.     You're not just choosing a word. You're choosing a bundle of attributes, principles, and behaviours to aspire to.

2.     Resist choosing your first word. It's probably boring or common. Explore the words near to the first word that comes to you. They're probably much more memorable and compelling.

3.     It should generate a positive response.  When I think of my word, every year I have created it (see later for inspiration) it always makes me smile when I think about it.  This also happens when others have arrived at their word, it kind of clunks in place.

It is super important here that the word has context.  That is why I put this in the 4th phase of my Design your Life on Purpose workshop.  Picking any random word is not going to generate any magical insights, in and of itself.  However, choosing a words after you have reflected in the year that has been and dreamt of what you want out of life, now that will anchor you and guide you going forward.

Second, MAKING YOUR WORD LESS DULL

You have a word, but it is bit dull - fancy it up by trying to relate it to one of the following:

  • Animal

  • Active

  • Archetype

  • Aspects

  • Abstract

Is there an archetype that applies? e.g. pioneer (my word for 2016), pirate, or an animal that has the characteristics you are looking for - maybe a Bengal Tiger. Think of something that works for you and is inspiring and memorable.

Thirdly, ADD AN IMAGE

You can make your contextual beacon more powerful by adding an image. Vision trumps every other sense (Brain Rules John Medina)

Fourthly, SHARE YOUR WORD

I mentioned before, why I share publicly.  Give people your word. Make sure your word will serve you in your social ecology. Choose a word your friends and colleagues will actually use and hold you to.

Electrify 2021

My word for 2021 is Electrify – this is about adding energy and power to where I am taking Incahoots, as well as my personal energy and power.  It is also about electrifying professionals to unearth possibilities and design a life that suits them perfectly.

The women that make me BRAVE - IWD 2021

On this IWD 2021 I am reminded about the women that have been supporting and cheering me on in the background, the ones that, quite frankly have made me brave.

Last year and this earlier this year I have been turning an investment of 7 years and $66,000 and counting into a course called Design Your Life on Purpose.  It has been designed for professionals who have deferred their dreams and are wondering now what?

The amazing women that I get to call friends have been test dummies, proof readers, process improvers, marketers, pilot participants and most importantly cheer squad.  They have had my back and then some the whole time I have crafting this into something I can deliver.

Heading into the second time I have delivered this in full – Saturday the 20th March link here (not so subtle plug), I am so thankful for all the ways they have been my support.  I know that as a result of their support, I have been brave.  Brave enough to pull something together and road test, Reflection Revolution (the first part of designing your life on purpose), during the thick of COVID-19 in Australia.  Brave enough to pull off a retreat in a NSW country town.  Brave enough to change the format to a one-day workshop to support professionals who could not make a retreat.  Brave enough to embark on a marketing campaign and follow up, that was way outside my comfort zone.

They have been there when I faltered, when I thought no one would sign up to attend, when I thought I was not charging enough or too much.  When I am embarking on a shift of my own professional focus, when it is just easier to get a gig, they have made me brave.

They have also been there with personal challenges, of which I have had many.  They have seen me at my weakest and at my strongest and they have held me regardless, they have made me brave.

Thank you, seems so inadequate for the support they have given, for the bravery they have instilled.  I am eternally grateful and humbled by the gift they have shared.

Ronni Kahn is the founder of OZ Harvest (Australia’s largest Food rescue association) and started this at the age of 52.  I imagine her and all the people that they help (27,701,761 meals from March to Dec 2020) are glad she didn’t think she was too old.  She has changed an entire industry and in fact created a new one for food rescue and diverted 7,792,763 kgs from landfill.

Pete Murray is a musician, and you might be thinking old, what the?  He became a serious musician into his thirties.  Shocking I know!  In an industry where if you haven’t had major success by mid to late 20s, you give up, this is unusual.  Pete only started learning guitar at 22, he didn't think he was too old, actually, he did.  He was convinced by other musos and has had 3 albums that have achieved Platinum status on the ARIA Charts (Australian Recording Industry Association) as a result.

Jan Logan started her jewellery business at age 50.  She had her kids and decided she needed something else in her life (see this article about a country girl to design icon).  The designs are just divine and I often lust over them.  Thank goodness she didn't think she was too old.

I am sure if you looked around you, you could find loads more .

To get you set up for that 1 hour a week – come along to the 1-day workshop Design your Life, On Purpose on 20th March.  You will get a wholistic strategic life map, that will cater for your personal circumstances.

Here are some other options to get you started on designing.

DYLOP Questions Answered

Questions I would ask, if I was you

When you are asked to take a Saturday and spend it with me creating a Strategic Life Map, that might generate a couple of questions.  Here are some I would ask if I was in your shoes.  Please feel free to ping me any others to hello@incahoots.com.au.

I don’t have time, I have so much going on and I just cannot add this to everything I am doing?

Ok, so we are starting with the big questions, ok let’s go.  When people come to this event, they always come away talking about how they should have done it years ago (they couldn’t because, I hadn’t finalised it).  This is not intended to add pressure to an already stressful little human, but to say it is never the perfect time.

What I can say is this just start!  Having a plan is the first step.  Once you have a plan it is much easier to work out what part you can move forward on, ie instead of doing X you can do Y.

The decision point is, are you happy with your life the way it is and the way its heading.  If the answer is no, then this is for you.  Recently a survey by Bauer Media HerPulse 5.0, said that 44% of women were considering reinventing their career.  That is 4 in 10 (so surprising that 40% is 4 in 101).  Design Your Life on Purpose is a wholistic life approach, not just career, so that means you are not alone.

I am too old to change now?

Classic!  My response, oh you must be dead then, as you are not too old EVER.  On the flipside you are also never too young.  I have a whole post dedicated to this coming up, so will leave it there, for now.

I do not have dreams?

I know that you do, they are just under the surface, hidden, deferred until a better time.  What I have seen is that through the process of reflecting and dreaming they emerge and you can start on them, even if circumstances are not completely right at the moment.  Here is a post I created earlier that will give you a complete sense.

I will summarise here.  We have been trained to not dream, being practical and sensible.  The dreams we had as a child get trained out of us.  Opening up this space, is rather magical.  Once these things are uttered, written down it is amazing how they take a life all of their own, almost like the universe was waiting for you to speak it out loud.

This is not work in that sense and I want to separate work from designing your life.

It requires Mono Tasking

Honouring the commitment, you have made to yourself, I know you will get much more if I ensure you are monotasking.  Being in the same room will help me help you monotask.

Dollars are a bit tight at the moment?

I understand that a whole lot of people have been affected by COVID-19 and changes to their employment.  So, I can offer a tailored payment plan that will suit your needs, just reach out and we can work through an option.  I know that can feel awkward, generating shame.  Be reassured, no-one needs to know except you and me and I will not treat you any differently.

I would like to bring a friend, but what if there are something I am not comfortable sharing, even sharing with my friend, how will this work?

One of the key guidelines of the workshop is that you only share, if and how much you want to, or not at all.  The choice is yours.  This process does bring up things that will surprise you, things that you might have been denying and might make your eyes leak.

DYLOP Venue Announced

Woohoo we have found an amazing venue

Finding the venue that is just right for when you are designing your Strategic Life Map, is actually a very important aspect of the whole experience.

It critically needs to not feel like you are going to a work conference or course.

It needs to feel creatively inspiring, but intimate and comfortable at the same time.

There also needs to be spaces for people to take a moment, if needed.

I can make a corporate-ish space feel less blah, but this only goes so far.  Finding the right space with the right vibe is REALLY, REALLY hard.  The search begins early.

So, when you find a place like Seed Spaces in Glebe you get uber excited!

The space is a co-working space during the week in a repurposed furniture showroom space.  Abbey and Oli have cleverly decked it out with recycled timbers and creative design features, as well as all the mod cons, making it just tops.  Check out the photos.

I am very excited to be holding the Design your Life on Purpose (DYLOP) 1-day workshop in this space.

Who Says? You cannot design an entire supply chain to be responsible

Who says your crazy idea might not be exactly what the world needs?

Design your Life on Purpose – who says series – is about looking at what amazing crazy ideas have been done, so why not yours?

Today we look at Elk the Label – who designed their entire supply chain to be more ethically and environmentally responsible.

Elk has been around for a while & design cool and funky jewellery & bags.  I have an insane amount.

On a routine visit to their suppliers, they were not happy with what was happening, from both a worker and environmental perspective.

So, they put in the work, a tonne of work, to design & change their entire supply chain process to be more ethically and environmentally responsible.  They could have just explained it away, ‘that is the way it happens in this country etc, it is a local cultural item and not within my ability to change’.  Thankfully, they did not do that, they knew it was not good enough and they rolled up their preverbal sleeves and started to get to fix it.

They ignored the people who said, it was just retail and could not be done and just went ahead and did it.

Here is a little video I recorded earlier.

So, what does this mean for you?

I want you to do the thing you have been avoiding, thinking it was not right or odd.  It is doable.  Ignore the naysayers and go do your thing.

I will be the cheerleader for your craziness.

You can get started with just a little bit of time each week.  Even 1 hour a week will get you started.  At the very least you will understand if this is for you or not.

To get your set up for that 1 hour a week – come along to the 1-day workshop Design your Life, On Purpose on 20th March.  You will get a wholistic strategic life map, that will cater for your personal circumstances.  All the detail here.

What's Unique about Design your Life, On Purpose?

Unique is one of those loaded words to use to describe yourself or your course.  On the one hand you cannot say you are entirely unique, as you have built your material on the back of other people’s hard work, as these fine artists say.

Austin Kleon and many artists before him say – “Steal Like an Artist”

David Bowie – “The only art I study is stuff I can steal from”

“Art is theft” Pablo Picasso

Then on the other hand your unique combination of genes, life experience, your upbringing and natural skills, means you and the DYLOP course will be unique.  Below are 3 reasons that will help add substance to this existential crisis.

What is indeed unique about Design Your Life on Purpose (DYLOP)?

  • It combines Organisational Change Management (OCM) with Personal Coaching

  • It is wholistic – treating you as a whole human being with responsibilities

  • It has been developed over 7 years and way over $66,000 has been invested, so you do not need to

It combines Organisational Change Management and Personal Coaching

  • 16 Organisations

  • 28 Projects/Programs

DYLOP_cassette.jpg

It is Wholistic

DYLOP is a wholistic approach to your life, treating you as whole human being.  Your family or personal circumstances will absolutely affect where you can place your energy and time.  So, it works with where you are and what you have right now. Once the course is complete, even 1 hour a week will continue to move you forward towards your dreams.  It does not matter if you are working full time, part time, just getting by or in your dream job, it suits all.

I have invested – so you do not have to

I cannot remember a time when I was not looking at ways to improve.  It started to crystallise when I started working in organisations in 1992.  I now know that what I attributed to constructive discontent is actually an inherent talent called “maximiser” (see more about strengths at Clifton’s Strength Assessment).  I am always looking at ways to be a better human, and to get more from this life, a burning desire to leave a legacy.

I have calculated, over the last 7 years alone – when I started working on DYLOP in earnest – I have invested well over $9,500 per year in this space.

I am a sharer, cannot help myself.

My Word for 2020 was Forge – it was about making this work enduring, the 7 years and over $66,000 have culminated in DYLOP, so you can stop deferring your dreams, develop a strategic life map answering the question – now what?

Bottom Line

Bottom Line is… I know CHANGE. I know how to plan for change, how to start change, how to adjust change in progress, how to track changes and how to embed change.

When you attend a DYLOP course you will be gaining the collective wisdom, that has been condensed and distilled from over 20 years of experience, from both Organisational Change Management and Personal Coaching.  You are getting the research, and investment to designing your desired future state.  You are getting a wholistic approach that is focused uniquely, on you, your personal Strategic Life Map that suits you and no one else.

Wow you made it a whole week, or even 2 if you started last week!

Welcome to a new sparkly, fresh and clean New Year – 2021!  We have big expectations for you 2021, even if we need to deal with some 2020 remnants.

New Year’s resolutions aside (they rarely work and here is why?)  How do you ensure you get the best out of the coming year?

Before we begin…..

You do not have to do anything right now or this month or this year. Just because a new year rolls around does not mean you automatically need to do something different.  It is just one of those convenient markers of time and generally when we have a little more head space to think.

 So, you have a choice…..

1.     Continue enjoying summer and check in again later in the year, enjoy OR

2.     See what 2 things you can do in January to improve your chances of getting more out of the coming year.  Yes, I said just 2 things.

 THINKING TIME

Thinking.jpg

So, you decided to read on. Yay you!

I personally love this time of the year.  I get to spend extended time with my family and friends.  More than that, I get to put the final touches on my next year’s plan, with space to dream and design.  I have been doing this for ages (between the last 7-10 years).  I am a planner and love designing my life map, it brings me great joy!  (wow, I sound like so much fun!)

To help you get the most out of this brand spanking new year, here are the 2 actions for you to take to design a better year, both of which are opt in.

STRENGTHS COACHING SESSION - Do you know your natural talents and are you applying them?

Do you know who you are?  Really know who you are?  If you do know who you are, then are your applying your strengths every day?  It is much easier to be more like you if you know more about what you are exceptional at and start focusing more deliberately on your fabulousness.

Gallup (analytics and advisory company – that measure everything that moves) has determined that people who understand and apply their strengths are “3 times more likely to report having an excellent quality of life and 6 times as likely to be engaged in their jobs”.

Don Clifton created an assessment, that will help you identify your talents - natural way of thinking, feeling or behaving.  Once you understand your talents with investment - time spent practicing, developing your skills and building your knowledge base – you turn them into a strength - the ability to consistently provide near perfect performance.

The approach is designed to concentrate on what is right with people, rather than what is wrong – revolutionary much?

A simple example is my skills in Excel vs PowerPoint.  I am pretty mediocre at Excel, but a gun in PowerPoint.  I could spend ages at getting good at Excel, whereas a small amount of time on PowerPoint hacks will mean I am exceptionally better.  There will be people in my network or work place that will be able to do pivot tables in their sleep, I can ask them to help me, in exchange for making their slides fabo.

The session will help you understand your strengths better and how to apply them.

What’s next?

You can access the strengths assessment via the following link (https://www.gallup.com/cliftonstrengths/en/253850/cliftonstrengths-for-individuals.aspx)

I would recommend getting the CS34 Report (Or the CliftonsStregnths34).

The value comes when you debrief the results and determine what you will do with them – that is where I come in.

How to access?

The best way is to email me your CS34 report and schedule a mutually agreeable debrief of the results, allow 1.5 hours - $75

DREAM QUEST

Dream Quest is designed to kick start the critical super habit of dreaming.  Without this super habit of dreaming it is hard to know what you are designing your life towards.  Even if you are unsure about whether you will complete any other Design your Life activities, reinstating this childhood habit will help you reawaken the dreamer in you.  Once the dreamer is ignited you will be surprised about how creative and innovative you can be.  Doesn't every organisation in the world want innovators, so it's a good career move regardless.

Perfect for:

This will be perfect for someone who is unsure whether they have any dreams at all or who is keen to start designing their life.

How it works?

As dreaming is a perpetual habit, something you can contribute to every day, Dream Quest can be accessed at any time.  Dream Questers will receive drip fed templates in the post, to allow them to think, percolate and document their dreams, with the full Incahoots experience.

How to access?

Dream Quest can be accessed at any time, but markers of time, like the beginning of a New Year are good times to help support the habit of dreaming.  All the information and sign up for Dream Quest is here at a cost of $75.

So, choose whether this is for you or not and embark on 2 small things that will make a massive difference for you to Design your Life, that suits you perfectly.

I have also included what is coming up and details about last year’s retreat to give you a sense of what we are driving towards.

Yours Collaboratively,

 Christina
